Tragedy in USA

It’s a true tragedy, the resent “mass shootings”. But let’s be clear — while tragic, death by firearms is about 4.7 per 100,000 people. Death by automobile is 14.7 per 100,000. Plus 2 of the shootings occurred in a “Gun Free Zone”. Per FBI statistics, all long guns (which include the subset of the Armalite model 15 [Invented in the 50’s, the AR-15, which does not stand for assault rifle 15]) is about 3% of all assault deaths. Knives, blunt-objects, and “other” (including hand to hand) accounted for more deaths (each) than a rifle.

  • Are we about to ban cars, they are far more deadly than firearms? It is easier to get a car than a gun. A 16 year old can drive a 3 ton truck down the road as fast as he can.
  • Are we about to ban blunt objects and hands? After all they are more deadly than rifles…

While mass shootings are tragic, firearms are not the cause of violence. Taking them away from law-abiding people will do nothing to keep them away from criminals; nor will it stop people from finding other ways to inflict terror, don’t forget how Timothy McVeigh inflicted his terror – no gun involved.

Remember, the 2nd amendment is there to protect the 1st. Without the first, we are doomed for civil war.

Remember to die.

We all die. A thought I had the other day while having a rough go at life, (“Why me? Why do I hurt? why? woe as me…” kind of day) I tried to think about how long it takes us figure out how to live. There are words written about birth, living, maturing, becoming frail,… Continue Reading

Momento Mori

I am not much of a guy for poetry, but this sticks with me. In latin (which I do not read) it seems to have an even heavier feeling. Vita brevis breviter in brevi finietur, Mors venit velociter quae neminem veretur, Omnia mors perimit et nulli miseretur. Ad mortem festinamus peccare desistamus. A rough english… Continue Reading

Good bye California

Well, my time in California has come to an end. I’ll be moving into my motorhome & heading to parts unknown as soon as I am done with treatment. I will not be checking email on a regular basis. Texts is probably the best way to contact me. I’ve had to strip down a lot… Continue Reading

WTF: i1bhteuo=axc|ff

About a year ago, in the upper left corner, “i1bhteuo=axc|ff” appeared.  this string doesn’t exist anywhere in the site (files, database, etc). I have checked encoded & plain text strings.  I have been unable to trace it down; and it followed me when I switched hosting providers… As near as I can tell, it must… Continue Reading

Kickstarter Love afair is over

I was a big fan of Kickstarter.  I tried some other (Indiegogo), but never got anywhere worthwhile. I had fun feeling like I helped bring something to market — but that’s really all you’re doing — You aren’t really “backing” a project, you’re helping by pre-ordering something.  Unless you are the rare virtuous people that… Continue Reading

IR with AnalysIR

AnalysIR is a small company of (from what I can tell) 2 or 3 developers, who develop both software & hardware.  Very helpful folks, they are in it for the love of it, which shows thru in their products & support. I stumbled upon them when I needed a way to understand what was going… Continue Reading
