Tragedy in USA

It’s a true tragedy, the resent “mass shootings”. But let’s be clear — while tragic, death by firearms is about 4.7 per 100,000 people. Death by automobile is 14.7 per 100,000. Plus 2 of the shootings occurred in a “Gun Free Zone”. Per FBI statistics, all long guns (which include the subset of the Armalite model 15 [Invented in the 50’s, the AR-15, which does not stand for assault rifle 15]) is about 3% of all assault deaths. Knives, blunt-objects, and “other” (including hand to hand) accounted for more deaths (each) than a rifle.

  • Are we about to ban cars, they are far more deadly than firearms? It is easier to get a car than a gun. A 16 year old can drive a 3 ton truck down the road as fast as he can.
  • Are we about to ban blunt objects and hands? After all they are more deadly than rifles…

While mass shootings are tragic, firearms are not the cause of violence. Taking them away from law-abiding people will do nothing to keep them away from criminals; nor will it stop people from finding other ways to inflict terror, don’t forget how Timothy McVeigh inflicted his terror – no gun involved.

Remember, the 2nd amendment is there to protect the 1st. Without the first, we are doomed for civil war.
